Backdrop Set-Up & Decor
It is hard to figure out decor overseas especially if you live in a small town with less desi options. most of my decorations were DIY or gifts from relatives. The entire set-up was done by my cousins, friends and I. So grateful for all the assistance and support I received. Here is how we set up the floor and stage.
DIY Dholki Stage backdrop
1) Used a backdrop stand and plain pink fabric as main background
2) To fill the empty spaces on the side (because the pink fabric did not extend as far), I used white net curtains bought from the Dollar Store
3) Flowers with lights were attached to the top and sides of the backdrop stand
4) Two layers of long lights from Amazon were attached on top of the pink and white fabrics, overlapping each other to make it look full of lights
5) A low box stool was used as the main seat and covered with pink sequin fabric
6) On top there were shimmer white and pink cushions to match the backgound
7) Desi umbrellas were placed on both sides to complete the look
DIY Dholki Floor Set-Up
1) The event was at a hall and the flooring was hard. This is why carpets were used to create cushioning and make sitting comfortable. There was one circular in the middle where the drum was and 2 rectangular ones on the sides
2) Keeping a colourful theme in mind, solid coloured bedsheets of red and purple were then spread on top of the carpets
3) Colourful pillows and décor were carefully placed around the carpets
4) The drum was set in the middle with the song book and tambourine. To make it stand out more, there was a golden sequin fabric underneath the drum
5) There were colourful lanterns bought from shein and hung from the ceiling. Due the colourful pastel look of all the items, the décor looked fresh, vibrant and playful
