Dholki Songbook
I would encourage everyone to keep a songbook at their dholki events.
Activities are most fun when everyone participates. Usually, only the adults are able to participate at dholkis as they can sing along to the classic and traditional folk songs. By the time one finds a song by looking it up on the phone, the older women in the group have already sung half of it.
I created a list of popular dholki songs and copied and pasted their lyrics onto a word document in English. I created a table of contents for the document and a title page that said “Tayyaba’s Dholki Songbook” Once I printed and hole punched it, I bound it together with ribbon for a personal touch.
The feedback I received was that it was a great idea because it helped people follow along and there was no running out of ideas about which song to sing.
